How does Galmet protect steel?

How does Galmet ColdGal work?
Galmet ColdGal works in three ways:
Galmet ColdGal provides Cathodic Protection through a protective layer of electrochemical cells which is applied to the metal surface. This is provided by the “more active” metal, zinc.
Galmet ColdGal is a zinc rich coating with over 92% zinc in dry film and the zinc is over 98.5% pure.
When electrochemical oxidation occurs, the environmental elements react with the zinc metal instead of the steel metal beneath resulting in an alternative reaction that prevents the steel corroding and the development of rust. The action also prevents rust from developing under Galmet ColdGal. It also produces a self-healing mechanism in instances where Galmet ColdGal has been scratched. Zinc oxides and carbonates form and effectively reseal the scratch providing longer asset protection and durability.
How do Galmet ‘anti-corrosive’ primers work?
Galmet anti-corrosive primers provide active inhibitive protection to steel against corrosion through precipitation of anti-corrosive agents and anodic passivation.
In addition to the active protection they protect metal by providing a durable, tough, adhesive and mostly impermeable barrier to prevent moisture, oxygen and corrosive ions reaching the metal surface.
